Donner to Squaw.

January 28, 2007: No snow anywhere except the cornice along the ridge from Donner to Squaw--guess that's the tour, then! For added challenge we skirt the other side of Anderson Peak...should have brought the ice axes. FF & JRB's photos. Who?: Jeff, Faerthen, Virginia, Otis

Donner Summit to Sagehen.

January 7, 2007: Can you ski from Donner Summit to Sagehen? Let's find out!

Low snow made for a difficult descent of Red Mountain. And the terrain at the head of Carpenter Valley is full of short little cliffs!

Who?:
Jeff, Faerthen, Beth, Dr. Jim, Gayle

Early start from Boreal.

Secret tunnel under the freeway!

Not at all clear what would be the optimal route.

East Side Adventure

April 20, 2005: The East Side is rife with Stupid Ski Tour potential.

On this trip, we walked the gated road to Mt. Wood, just before they opened it an hour later. On our next visit, we tried to sneak around the back to gain elevation & skip the road stroll, but created miles of sagebrush thrashing in the process...definitely stupid, especially the part where Jeff & Jim had a turns contest on that tiny snowbank.

Who?:

Jeff, Faerthen, Beth, Dr. Jim, Sue, Gayle

The closed road that opened while we were on Mt. Wood!

Thin cover.

Walking back to the car on the
now-open road :)

We outsmarted ourselves today--the shortcut was a
long walk through the sagebrush.

Nice ski on McGee!

Chamonix to Zermatt Haute Route

March, 2005: Does the world's most amazing, unforgetable, iconic ski tour count as a Stupid Tour? Hm. Long slogs, check. Ropes, ice axes & crampons, Long day after long day. Often horrible snow. Elaborate public transit. Here are some pics--you decide. Who?: Jeff, Faerthen, Beth, Dr. Jim, Sue, Gayle, Mark
